20090817 The Worst Trip Ever || Day One

I went for a very short hiatus from Friday 14th August to Sunday 16th August recently, not because I was busy with works or anything, but because I was forced to follow my parents for a 3 days 2 night trip to Mersing in Johor to attend my cousin's wedding. This trip was planned three months earlier, and still, it was the WORST trip ever in my life.

Day One ;; Friday 14th August 2009

We (my parents, my younger sister and I) left our house at 9.00 a.m. after so much commotion early in the morning. It already made me slightly annoyed. My younger sister argued about her hair, and I was angry when it came to the matter of too many stuffs were placed inside the car's trunk. See the picture attached with this post, our car wasn't the kind of car which fitted so many things!

My dad was the one who was the most excited about the trip, because it was his niece who got married. He always treated us differently in front of his siblings and I hated it when he did that so this trip was nothing but a total pain in a butt (sorry for the language here though). I was never close to my cousins by my dad's side (I hated all of them, none of them was a friend or someone I would be friends with) and when I went for this trip, I knew nothing would be right. The journey itself took about 7 hours, and I was already cursing at how long it was inside the car. We met the rest of my dad's family in Kluang for lunch and went together (6 cars total) to Mersing. It was another long trip, taking about 2 hours.

The road heading to Mersing was suprisingly long and dangerous. It went through estate areas, with both the sides of the road filled with endless field of oil palm trees and sometimes forest (and not to mention abandoned houses). It rain heavily that day too, causing my dad to drive as slow as he could. It got more boring there. There were no houses, no towns, just trees and more trees.

We finally arrived at Mersing and went to my aunt's house, just to realize her neighborhood was indeed VERY CROWDED and very narrow (Malay will be used here ;; kawasan perumahan dia sempit nak mampus! Lori pun susah nak masuk kawasan tu). There were canopies outside her house and we greeted the family (forced to greet). The wedding was going to be held at her house and there were lots of unknown people helping the family with the food, the arrangement of tables and chairs, the doorgifts and everything else.

The bride-to-be at that moment looked nothing pretty when we met her during the time she was putting on henna on her fingers, because she confessed she gained weight (and she hated it) before her own wedding day. We spent 30 minutes at that house (the aunts and uncles talking blah, blah, blah...me and my mp4 player alone at the corner of the house) before we headed towards our place to stay for that night. My uncle rented a huge enormous guest house located quite far from his house but near the sea for the 5 families (including mine) but only 2 families stayed at that guest house, my family and my youngest uncle's family. The others left and rented hotel rooms instead.

The guest house was actually a huge bungalow, with four bedrooms downstairs and a dorm-like arrangement with 12 beds on the second floor. We got the biggest bedroom with two double beds and a bathroom of our own while the others will have to share one big bathroom instead. The bungalow was completed with TV with ASTRO (Malaysian's paid cable channel) and even a noraebang system. The caretaker of the guest house was a very kind and generous 50 years-old man. The guest house was so beautiful, my mom felt in love with it.

We got the biggest room so I was happy about that. We unpacked our things and I checked for the wireless internet connection however, I was dissapointed. I spent the rest of that day with an internet-less laptop. Darn it, I hated it when that happened. My dad scolded me for not bringing along more baju kurung to be worn to attend a night's occasion at my aunt's house, thus my younger sister and I decided that we will wear t-shirts, pair of jeans and put on our nicest hoodies. He was still slightly angry about that though.

That night we went back to my aunt's house and we had dinner, attending a small occasion called "Berinai" where close family members celebrated the bride-to-be. Ate dinner, listened to my dad talked to his family while my mom ranted about how she was ignored by him all night, and others were boring. Went back to the guest house at 12 midnight, put on my pajamas and watched some video with my mom through my laptop. We watched FT Island's Fire and Pretty Girl's performance together and giggled like little girls. We also argued about who looked better, was it Hongki with his bright orange hair or was it Seunghyun with his so-charming smile before we went to sleep.

End of day one.

The rest will be posted on separated posts.
